Julian Mugova (Mrs.)
Julian holds a Degree in Bachelor of Arts, and another in Bachelor of Law – both of which were obtained at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa.
Whilst in University, Julian held several leadership positions, such as that of International Affairs Councillor in the Student Representative Council, where she represented students from across the globe in matters relating to their studies at the University, amongst others. In her penultimate year of University, Julian worked at the Rhodes University Legal Aid Clinic as a Legal Advisor, and was awarded a Certificate of Merit for her outstanding performance.
Julian was afforded the opportunity to attend Utrecht University as an Exchange Student, where she ranked in the top 2% of her class. Owing to her academic performance whilst on exchange, Julian was recalled to The Netherlands under a scholarship to attend the Summer Institute for Global Justice in Utrecht, in which only a select few students from Ivy League American Universities were enrolled. During this time, Julian volunteered for the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights, where she worked on a research project involving international law and human rights law with a number of distinguished legal experts such as the former Prosecutor of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, David Crane, and leading Dutch Professor, Tom Zwart
Shortly after graduation, Julian joined the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where she drafted legal memoranda and briefs of submissions made by the Prosecution. Subsequent to this, Julian worked in the Office of the Registrar at the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in The Hague. Her duties incorporated drafting internal legal and administrative memoranda, conducting comparative research on novel areas of law, and assisting the Special Assistants to the Registrar in preparing for diplomatic meetings which the Registrar was involved by way of drafting his speeches and talking points of note at such meetings.
Pursuant to her international stint, Julian returned to practice law in Zimbabwe. Julian is a Lawyer registered with the Law Society of Zimbabwe, and has practiced under a local Law Firm over the last three (3) years, with a focus on civil litigation, debt collection, legal research, business law, and family law.
During her time in practice, Julian has handled high profile civil litigation matters, and a debt collection portfolio to the tune of US$ 9.6 million. Through her work ethic, she rose to Senior Associate in the Law Firm, and dealt with the majority of the civil litigation files numbering at least 120 at any given point.
